CBN: We have approved the return of scrapped N500 and N1,000 notes.

Nigeria’s central bank has denied reports that it has approved the return of scrapped N500 and N1,000 notes.

A joint statement by the Deputy Governor, Edward Adamu and Osita Nwanisiobi, Director, Corporate Communication of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has said it will not be issuing new N200 banknotes.

The Central Bank of Nigeria is working with the law enforcement agencies to investigate, apprehend and prosecute the purveyors of this fake news. The hunt for the new naira notes got fiercer on Tuesday with many Nigerians besieging various banks to make withdrawal across the counter or via the ATMs.
