Godswill Akpabio, the Anointed One, is elected Senate President.

Godswill Akpabio, a former governor of Akwa Ibom State, has been chosen to lead the 10th Assembly’s Senate by the All Progressives Congress.

Elections held at the federal parliament on Tuesday in Abuja resulted in victories for the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates for the leadership positions in the National Assembly.

Senator Jibrin Barau was elected to the role of Deputy President of the higher legislative chambers, while Senator Godswill Akpabio was elected as President of the Senate. Tajudeen Abbas won the election for Speaker of the House of Representatives, while Benjamin Kalu was chosen as the Deputy Speaker.

The Speaker and Deputy Speaker seats were designated to the North-West and South-East, respectively, while the Senate presidency was assigned to the South-South by the ruling party, who also backed Akpabio for the role. Given what happened in 2015, the APC senators began showing up at the National Assembly as early as possible.
